About: The Great Colombian Festival GFC
GFC/Colombian Fest celebrates its 10th anniversary with exceptional music and passion. Colombia's culture is a mix of many great things, from its cuisine to its carnivals, its dance and its cumbia, vallenato and salsa music. Colombian festivals are characterized by explosive colors, carnival costumes, boisterous music and passionate celebrations. GFC will be held on the NEIU campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave, Chicago, on July 19, 20 and 21, 2024. GFC donates one dollar from each admission ticket to the NEIU Foundation’s GFC Scholarship Fund.
About: International Conservatory of Latinx/o/a Culture (ICLC)
ICLC is a new cultural organization serving as host of the GFC. Its main mission is to keep folk culture alive and vibrant in the future. They believe the future lies in helping parents teach and expose their children to their culture, roots, music, food, dance, art, language, sports camaraderie and family values in the modern era. It is also a fundamental impulse behind the Great Colombian Festival. (GFC) ICLC is organizing several cultural workshops in the festivals family pavilion for all attendees, young and old.
• The Great Colombian Festival and ICLC will dedicate their Great Community Day to Chicago first responders on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. m. to 10:00 p.m. m. In honor of the fallen and living heroes of the Chicago Police Department and the Fire Department: with a Special Concert by Christian Alicea, profiled as the new rising star of the tropical genre. Christian Alicea finds his musical inspiration in his Puerto Rican roots, his family background, and his passion for Latin music. Christian Alicea is one of the few young salsa artists and he is causing a sensation. The GFC Orchestra is made up of Chicago's best musicians, with special guests Alfredo De La Fe (violinist, Fania All-Stars), Pibo Márquez, Amelia García and Claudia La Gitana.
• GFC/ICLC along with the Chicago Police Department Sports Teams will host a FREE SUMMER SPORTS CAMP for kids, beginning Friday, July 19, from 12:00 p.m. m. to 3:00 p.m. m., at the NEIU Athletic Field. Players and coaches from CHICAGO POLICE SOCCER CLUB, CPD Football ENFORCERS, CPD Baseball Club KNIGHTS, CPD WOMEN'S FC, CPD WOMEN'S SOCCER, CHICAGO POLICE BASEBALL CLUB FINEST and CPD CAPS 17TH DISTRICT, along with former NFL players including Nate Turner (Buffalo Bills /Super Bowl), Mike Martin (Cincinnati Bengals/Super Bowl), Tim Tyrrell (L.A. Rams), Gemara Williams (New England Patriots). Coach Ángel López will lead the sports camp, which will include exercises, leadership skills and lots of fun.
• The GFC 2024 main event includes award-winning artists such as GRUPO NICHE, JORGE CELEDON, LOS GAITEROS DE SAN JACINTO, GABRIEL "RUMBA" ROMERO, HENRY FIOL, ALFREDO DE LA FE, PIBO MÁRQUEZ AND MORE TO BE ANNOUNCED.
