In a groundbreaking initiative that transcends borders, the Chicago Police Soccer Club and the New York City Police Department Soccer are gearing up for a friendly tournament with law enforcement teams from Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia. This extraordinary event is part of a broader humanitarian mission, where the USA Teams will play a pivotal role in fostering community development and cultural exchange.
The friendly tournament, hosted in collaboration with local police teams from Cartagena and Santa Marta, will showcase the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. The matches will not only entertain but also serve as a platform for building lasting connections between law enforcement agencies on both sides of the hemisphere. What sets this mission apart is the commitment to giving back. The Chicago Police Soccer Club and NYPD Soccer Teams have collectively gathered over 3100 pounds of new sporting equipment and supplies, a heartfelt donation that will be directed towards children and sports programs in Colombia. This initiative underscores the USA Teams' dedication to making a positive impact beyond the soccer field.

"Our teams are not only competing on the field but are also united in our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children through the donation of sporting equipment and groceries."
The 10th Annual Gran Festival Colombiano in Chicago will serve as the International Partner for this exceptional tournament. “This festival, known for celebrating Colombian culture and heritage, provides an ideal setting for the fusion of sports, community engagement, and philanthropy. The tournament aligns seamlessly with the festival's mission of promoting unity and understanding among diverse communities. “ States Special Guest Embassdor Lt. Elvis Ortega (CPD), Lieutenant Ortega is the highest ranking Police officer on this mission and co-collaborator on El Gran Festival Colombiano.
The donated equipment will be distributed to local schools, youth organizations, and sports programs in Cartagena and Santa Marta, leaving a lasting legacy and promoting healthy and active lifestyles among Colombian youth.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in the vibrant cities of Cartagena on Wednesday, February 28th and Santa Marta on Sunday, March 3rd, providing an opportunity for cultural exchange and building bridges between the law enforcement agencies involved. GFC/Colombian Fest celebrates their 10th Year Anniversary with great music and passion! Colombia’s culture is a mixture of many great things—from it’s cuisine, to it’s carnivals, to it’s dance and it’s cumbia, vallenato and salsa music. Colombian festivals are characterized by explosive colors, festival carnival costumes, bustling music and passionate celebrations. GFC will held at NEIU Campus Ground, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave, Chicago on July 19,20,21,2024. GFC donates one dollar from each festival admission ticket to benefit NEIU Foundation’s GFC Scholarship Fund.
About: International Conservatory of Latinx Culture (ICLC) is a new cultural organization which serves as host of the GFC. Their main mission is to keep folkloric culture alive and vibrant in the future. They believe the future lies with helping parents teach and expose their children to their culture, roots, music, foods, dance, art, language, sportsmanship and family values in the modern day. It’s also a primary impetus behind the Colombian Fest (GFC). ICLC is hosting various culture workshops in the festivals’ family pavilion for all patrons young and old.
Gran Festival Colombiano and ICLC will be dedicating its Gran Community Day to Chicago’s first responders on Friday, July 19th, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. In honor of the fallen and living heroes from the Chicago Police Department & Fire Department: With a Special Concert With Christian Alicea, Profiled as the newest rising star of the tropical genre, Christian Alicea draws his musical inspiration from his Puerto Rican roots, his family background and his passion for Latin music. Christian Alicea is one of the few young salsa artists, and is causing quite a sensation. GFC Orquesta made up Chicago’s best musicians featuring special guests; Alfredo De La Fe (Violinist, Fania All-Stars), Pibo Marquez , Amelia Garcia and Claudia La Gitana.
GFC/ICLC along with Chicago Police Department Sports Teams will be hosting a FREE SPORTS SUMMER CAMP for kids starts Friday, July 19th , 12pm-3pm, @ NEIU Athletic Field. Players and Coaches from the CHICAGO POLICE SOCCER CLUB,, CPD Football ENFORCERS, CPD Baseball Club KNIGHTS, CPD WOMEN’S FC, CPD WOMEN’S SOCCER, CHICAGO POLICE BASEBALL CLUB FINEST and CPD CAPS 17TH DISTRICT along with former NFL Football Players including Nate Turner (Buffalo Bills/Super Bowl), Mike Martin (Cincinnati Bengals/Super Bowl), Tim Tyrrell (L.A. Rams),Gemara Williams (New England Patriots) Coach Angel Lopez will run the sports camp which features; drills, leadership skills, and lots of fun!
